The Whale Trail
5 glorious days on the iconic South African Whale Trail. This hike is rated as the best in the country – An untouched piece of the South African coast where we spent our days hiking and snorkeling and our nights braaing, star gazing and listening to the waves crashing around us.
Fanie Botha
The Fanie Botha hiking Trail winds its way through the hills of Sabie for 5 endless days of waterfalls, panoramic views, isolation – and in our case, rain! Each day of the hike is more challenging than the last. But you don’t get to swim alone in a thundering waterfall or follow fire flies through a sleeping forest without first soldiering through a few blistering up-hills…
Mannequin Challenge
When there is no TV, no signal and no money left for 3 hand poker you have to think of new ways to entertain yourselves.
The Chain Ladder Hike
5 friends (one less prepared than the rest) brave 60 meters of chain ladders up a cliff in search of the most beautiful sunrise in South Africa. The chains are not for the faint hearted (neither are the negative temperatres).
Platteklip Gorge
Platteklip Gorge is the most direct hiking trail to the top of Table Mountain – and also one of the toughest! The hike is only about 3 kilometres but the relentlessly steep path leads straight for the summit and is nothing but up, up, up!
Wonderboom Hike
Hike to a 1000 year old Miracle Tree and the crumbling Fort that it once protected, all hidden in plain sight amongst the bustling streets of Pretoria.
Faerie Glen Nature Reserve
An evening hike in the beautiful Faerie Glen Nature Reserve, with the newest addition to the GO OUTSIDE Team.
Table Mountain National Park
For many Capetonians, Table Mountain is a magnificent playground where mornings are spent jogging or hiking with friends and pets and evenings are enjoyed picnicking or cycling on the mountain with the spectacular views of Cape Town as a backdrop…
The Cannibal Hike
This breathtaking 2 day hike has something for everyone – bushman paintings, waterfalls, unbeatable sunsets, a night in an open air cave and a serious climb to the top of Mushroom Rock. It is a great option to do with a big group of friends.
You can watch the full length video here.
Moreleta Kloof
There is something for everyone here – from walkers or trail runners, to bird or wildlife enthusiasts, and even those of us who just want to enjoy some fresh air (and have an excuse to eat a slice of cake at Rademeyers, the restaurant located on the Reserve).
Walter Sisulu Gardens
The Botanical Gardens may not be “off the beaten track” but I always find such joy in visiting them. The Gardens in South Africa are impeccable – and with its stunning cascading Waterfall, rolling lawns that were made for cartwheels and endless nooks to explore – the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens are certainly no exception.

Pretoria Botanical Gardens
Between the waterfall, the secret trails, two top class restaurants and the migrating butterflies there is no reason not to put your takkies on, and head to the Pretoria National Botanical Gardens. It guarantees a day of fun… and magic.
